Justin; Aninri Legislative Council Reviews Suspended Members’ Cases at Plenary Session

Staff Reporter Ndeabor, Enugu State – September 3, 2025
The Aninri Legislative Council held a decisive plenary session today 3rd of september 2025 at the temporary legislative chambers in Ndeabor to review the cases of two suspended members: Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Philip Igwe, former Leader of the House, and Rt. Hon. Gladys Ani, former Chief Whip of the Council. Both legislators were initially suspended in May over allegations of misconduct and abuse of office.
During the session, council members deliberated extensively on the findings and recommendations of the Committee on Investigation and Disciplinary Matters, chaired by Rt. Hon. Sunday Olisemeka. After a thorough review, it was resolved that Rt. Hon. Gladys Ani’s suspension be lifted, and she be reinstated to her position with immediate effect. According to the council’s resolution, Hon. Gladys acknowledged her wrongdoing, publicly pleaded for forgiveness, and assured members of her commitment to uphold the ethics and standards of the legislative body going forward. > “She accepted her faults, sought mercy, and pledged never to engage in such practices again. In view of this, the council unanimously agreed to recall her and restore all official entitlements and privileges that were suspended during her period of sanction,” the committee chairman announced. However, the case of Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Philip Igwe remains unresolved. The council ruled that his suspension will continue indefinitely, citing his failure to comply with the conditions set for his reinstatement. Chairman Olisemeka revealed that Hon. Igwe has refused to acknowledge that he is no longer the Leader of the House, while still presenting himself as such in various public and private gatherings. > “Despite repeated warnings, Hon. Igwe has continued to parade himself as the Leader of Aninri Legislative Council. More worrisome is his refusal to account for security funds meant for constituency projects, which he allegedly diverted,” Rt. Hon. Olisemeka stated. Additionally, the committee reported serious threats allegedly issued by Hon. Igwe against fellow council members, creating tension within the legislative body. Rt. Hon. Sunday Olisemeka appealed for additional time to conclude ongoing investigations and to ensure due process is followed in addressing the matter thoroughly. The plenary session was described as peaceful but highly engaging, with members reaffirming their commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance in Aninri Local Government Area. The leadership of the council urged all stakeholders and constituents to remain calm as the disciplinary process continues, assuring the public that no one is above the law and that the council will act in the best interest of the people.
